Download Anti-Virus Software: It’s important to use an anti-virus program to protect your computer from viruses that can change information and steal information from your computer. Norton™ and McAfee are examples of anti-virus software that you can purchase. Once you purchase the software, it’s important to keep it up to date so that your computer is completely protected from the newest attempts from hackers to infect your computer.

Update Your Web Browser: Be sure to check your web browser for available updates. Hackers will find vulnerabilities in web browsers and use those weaknesses to attack your computer while you’re browsing the web. Updating the browser will fix those vulnerabilities and ensure another layer of security while you surf the internet.

Only Purchase from Reputable Merchants: Make sure you are buying from an online merchant with a good reputation before providing your personal information. Locate the website’s contact page and find phone numbers, location, and check the website’s security certificate.

Don’t Fall for Phishing Attempts: Scammers will send an email, that looks like it’s from a reputable company, with malicious links promising unbelievable deals. Remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. The link could download a virus to your computer without your knowledge or ask you for personal information. Never click on links in an email that comes from an unfamiliar source, and never provide personal or bank account information through email.
