Over $5,000 was raised during Members CU’s inaugural Peace, Love and Walk, a walk/fun run benefiting the ALMS HOUSE of Hope Mills, NC that took place on Saturday, October 7th at the Municipal Park in Hope Mills. The ALMS HOUSE is a non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, counseling and financial assistance to those in need.

“The ALMS HOUSE provides a valuable service to the Hope Mills community,” remarked Jon Hamby, Member Relations Coordinator of Members Credit Union. “I was amazed at how much the ALMS HOUSE is doing for their community. Seeing the bags they make each week to provide food for school children who may not have food to eat on the weekends was truly an emotional sight.”

Participants in the Peace, Love and Walk were encouraged to wear 1970’s costumes during the stroll around the walking track at Municipal Park. Once participants finished their journey and returned to home base, a 1970’s fashion contest was held and the winner was decided by applause.

During the months leading up to the Peace, Love and Walk event, additional funds were raised through T-shirt sponsorships that were sold for $100 each. T-shirt sponsors honored friends and family by having their name printed on the back of the Peace, Love and Walk T-shirt. These T-shirts were given out to walkers who registered for the event.

This year the Peace, Love and Walk had many corporate sponsors including Southern Oaks Animal Hospital, AmeriSpec Inspection Services, The Fayetteville Observer, Kiwanis of Hope Mills, Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church, Eco Advantage Termite and Pest Solutions, The Wing Company, Franco Construction, Kenjuana McCray for Hope Mills Commissioner, Frito Lay, The Boarding House Treasures and Tea Room, P3 Salon, Pat Edwards – Hope Mills Commissioner, Damon’s Auto Workz and Village Family Dental.. P3 Salon sold raffle tickets for a gift basket filled with products from the salon and gave chair massages in exchange for donations. Proceeds from the raffle and chair massages benefited the ALMS HOUSE

Thanks to corporate sponsors and the community of Hope Mills, Members CU raised $5400. 100% of the proceeds from the 2017 Peace, Love and Walk were donated to the ALMS HOUSE. Members CU plans to expand the Peace, Love and Walk event next year to include more vendors, food trucks and a few more surprises!
